Consular Infomation - Emergency Travel

C: Emergency assistance - lost passport etc

MY PASSPORT WAS STOLEN, i lost my passport, I hold a Latvian passport which has expired, OR I have no other passport and I need to travel back to Latvia urgently

If you have a Latvian passport which has expired, or it was lost or stolen, and need to return to Latvia for an emergency, then the easiest way to do so is to apply for a one-way return document (Emergency Travel Document (ETD) / Atgriešanās apliecība) from the Embassy of Latvia in Washington D.C. This will allow you to return to Latvia and then get a new passport whilst you are there. Once you apply to the Embassy for the return certificate (completed the documents and have confirmation of your payment to the Valsts kase), the Consulate in Vermont will be able to assist with issuing the physical document to you.

Click here to download the documents that you will need to submit to the Embassy in Washington in order to request an ETD. For more information, please click here.

The Consulate in Vermont can issue an ETD in emergency situations.
